There have been so many advances in Neonatology since the 1970s. Babies are living from earlier births now but there is more developments all the time.

In the south west, we are in quite a geographically challenged area for neonatal services in terms of operational delivery networks (ODN) but these ODNs help ensure resources are used to the best possible level.

Looking at the logistics of transport of neonatal patients

Family centred care is central to neonatal care but there is a movement to create family integrated care by involving family with quality improvement as well as care.

There is a lot of focus into neonatal services at the moment from the Neonatal Critical Care Review (2019)

There’s a lot of baby data collected into a neonatal database called BADGERNET.

There are so many options for development in structured routes within neonatal intensive care University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and within the South West. All of these pathways are fully funded and there is time to complete them.
