80% of women in jails are mothers, and most of them are primary caretakers of their children. Mass incarceration has a ripple effect, causing trauma that can last generations within a single family.

RFK Jr. or anyone aiming to help ppl recover or prevent overdose deaths must understand that we need various interventions. No one method will meet everyone’s unique needs. Treatment should be available on demand, low cost/free, & have evidence it works. drugpolicy.org/substance-use-…

CDC just announced a 27% reduction in overdose deaths in 2024. This didn’t happen by accident; these declines are the result of investment in harm reduction and evidence-based treatment. 🧵 1/5 cnn.com/2025/05/14/hea…

This reduction is promising, but we shouldn’t lose focus. The US still saw more than 80,000 overdoses in 2024. We are starting to see efforts supported by last administration pay off, but the death toll is still exorbitant & overdose rates are increasing among minority groups 2/5

We are in danger of losing these gains if Congress does not reverse cuts to vital programs to combat overdose. Trump’s proposed budget targets the very programs that get naloxone to people who save lives. They’re the programs that provide on-ramps to treatment. 3/5

New momentum at the UN could shift international drug policy for the better: from a system that emphasizes control and punishment to a more humane one that is non-punitive and based on evidence, writes our Kasia Malinowska. passblue.com/2025/06/26/his…
