So, you want to give up. I want to give up. We all want to give up. But we are here, still. Maybe this giving up is a sentence we desire to write; a love letter to another whose self also yearns for a sentence to hold on to and say: yes, we are not alone.

It tears my heart to say that my father, Ngugi Wa Thiong'o passed away earlier today. I am me because of him in so many ways, as his child, scholar and writer. I love him - I am not sure what tomorrow will bring without him here. I think that is all I have to say for now.

The child must now weep. And so many devils are now on the cross. You now breathe ancestrally. Go well, Ngugi.

I remember weeping into my hands after putting down The River Between. Eternally moved and changed by Ngugi's prose. Rest in Peace. Rest in Peace.

Yesterday was my final workshop as a Wallace Stegner Fellow. For now, I’ll sit inside myself, thinking of the miracle that is these past two years. I might even write an essay.
