Under the direction of President Vladimir Putin, groups of children were taken from Ukraine and brought to Russia for placement. These children have been taken to at least 21 regions throughout Russia. The majority, if not all, are believed to have been made Russian citizens.

Consortium partner Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) at YSPH identified 314 children taken from Ukraine and listed on Russia’s child placement databases or placed with citizens of Russia. The new Russian guardians were allowed to give up Ukrainian citizenship on behalf of the children. Read more:
