We were a diverse team of physical oceanographers, biogeochemists, atmospheric scientists and ecologists studying mesoscale eddy-eddy interactions. With 83 CTDs, 105 XBTs, 24 drifters, 24 radiosondes, 10,000+ seabirds, and 2850 nm travelled, we had a *very* productive voyage!

Personal highlights: sailing under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, launching an XBT, observing a pod of 200+ dolphins, crossing the Tasman Front, a Integrated Marine Observing System BGC Argo deployment, table tennis in rough seas, and of course… a late-night eddy centre viewing party in the operations room.

I loved the daily science talks and cruise updates. We had talks on the SWOT satellite mission, Bluebottle prediction and citizen science, calculating eddy centres, weather radar 101, measuring fluorescence, plankton, drifters and surface kinematics etc. #RVInvestigator

Congratulations to Prof Moninya Roughan awarded the Royal Society of NSW Clarke Medal and Lectureship in Earth Sciences for 2023. We are thrilled that our team’s research has been recognized in this way.

We know that surface temps can mis-represent sub surface marine heatwaves. That’s why we are worming tirelessly to measure sub- surface ocean temperatures using fishing vessels.

Dr Helen Bostock Prof Moninya Roughan Royal Society of NSW UNSWOceanography Dr Helen Bostock, there's about 15 or 16 women on the list of previous winners: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarke_Me…. I think Moninya is the first oceanographer (male or female) to win the medal, however.
