It was great to hear Minister Jerry Buttimer TD speak so positively about the role charities and voluntary organisations play in communities around Ireland, especially in times like Storm Eowyn, and acknowledging the sector’s calls for multi-annual funding and efficient regulation.

Fantastic to hear from Minister Buttimer. In his opening address to a packed room of CV sector delegates, the Minister was keen to emphasise the value of the work our sector does, and to assure all those in attendance that department & government are listening. #charitysummit

Great to see Trócaire launch a new climate justice campaign with a powerful report: ‘Fuelling Injustice: Ireland’s fossil fuel problem’ exposes how we are enabling climate harm & calls on Micheál Martin’s Gov to do its fair share to drive a fast, funded, fossil-fuel phase out.

A HISTORIC MILESTONE: For the first time, solar power generated more electricity globally than nuclear, making it the world’s 4th largest power source. In just 5 years, solar output nearly tripled—from 79 TWh (Apr 2020) to 233 TWh (Apr 2025). The energy transition is speeding up.

Energy efficiency is the unsung hero of Europe’s industrial competitiveness. Without efficiency gains since 2000, industry would use 1/3 more energy—costing tens of billions more every year. It’s not just energy prices that matter, but how smartly we use energy.

Good to hear Micheál Martin at #NED25 reiterate the “existential challenge of climate change”, the growing threat from storms like Eowyn, & commit to accelerate #ClimateAction, “doing more and faster”. But we haven’t seen decisions and delivery to match that rhetoric so far.

What to make of the fact that the sockets at the #NED25 aren’t connected to any power supply 😬? Our infrastructural deficit is getting out of hand altogether 😛.
