I spoke for The Wheel at the IREPO workshop on Energy Poverty in Ireland on Friday about the impact of energy poverty on wellbeing and what the state should do about it, with thanks to work by the SVP - Ireland and Friends of the Earth. Here's my speech: soundcloud.com/oisincoghlan/t…
My take on Micheál Martin's climate reputation after a few months back as Taoiseach, for eolas Magazine. He's undone much of the work he'd done to be regarded as serious on climate change. What he does next will determine his legacy. eolasmagazine.ie/lip-service-or…
The new emissions projections from EPA Ireland are alarming and shocking. Ireland is going backwards on climate. What Micheál Martin does next is the acid test for his commitment to delivering the Programme for Government and upholding the climate law. stopclimatechaos.ie/news/2025/05/2…
It was great to hear Minister Jerry Buttimer TD speak so positively about the role charities and voluntary organisations play in communities around Ireland, especially in times like Storm Eowyn, and acknowledging the sector’s calls for multi-annual funding and efficient regulation.
In particular, we were pleased to note that we have been heard on the crucial needs of our sector around multi-annual funding (the top entry on our audience poll of key sector concerns today!) @DeptRCD An Roinn Iompair - Department of Transport Jerry Buttimer TD #charitysummit
Fair play to Minister Jerry Buttimer TD for staying for the whole of the morning session at The Wheel’s #CharitySummit to hear from Alexandrina Najmowicz of European Civic Forum @eucivicforum.bsky.social, Elaine Teague of DFI and emmet malone of @irishtimes.
Is this the first time an EU PM has said it so definitively? Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin tells Parliament that “Netanyahu and the Israeli Govt, made up of extreme far-right elements, are committing genocide in Gaza right now”.
Good to hear Micheál Martin at #NED25 reiterate the “existential challenge of climate change”, the growing threat from storms like Eowyn, & commit to accelerate #ClimateAction, “doing more and faster”. But we haven’t seen decisions and delivery to match that rhetoric so far.
I've written to RTÉ Prime Time urging them to ask about climate change in the final Presidential debate next Tuesday. Both candidates supported the 2019 declaration of a climate emergency by the Dáil. I want to hear how they would approach it as president linkedin.com/posts/oisincog…
