Today the drilling reached a depth of 2200 m. The processing has almost reached the drilling, but stays a couple of days behind to allow the ice cores to rest to let the drilling fluid evaporate. A beatiful halo could be admired over the drilling tent. 📸Federico Scoto PNRA/IPEV

We want to say a big thank you to the Concordia Station personnel who have been helping Beyond EPICA in numerous ways: from unloading and storing the ice core boxes (photos), to supplying food+water and providing technical support to our team at LDC. 📸R. Scipinotti©PNRA/IPEV

For all these years, it was just a name, a hope, a dream. Now the water stable isotope measurements confirmed that we have officially surpassed EPICA Dome C as the oldest continuous ice core record! We are truly Beyond EPICA! Merry Christmas to everyone! 📸F. Scoto©PNRA/IPEV

The Beyond EPICA ice core drilling has finally reached the bedrock at a depth of 2800 m: this is a huge success for our project and for ice core science! We have strong indications that 1.2 million years of climate record are stored in the uppermost 2480 m of ice. 📸©PNRA/IPEV

The surface snow program was carried out with a transect from LDC to Concordia and with a 50-m long and 2.5-m deep trench at LDC to investigate the spatial variability of the isotopic signal. The team had their last dinner together. Now the camp is closed. 📸J. Westhoff©PNRA/IPEV
