A very sad day. I will miss Jeremy very much.

James Brokenshire was a rigorous, capable, dedicated, loyal Minister whom it was my pleasure to serve at the Home Office. But the outpouring of sadness today is at least as much to do with his constant personal kindness and cheerfulness, which I remember with deep gratitude. RIP.

Excited to be arriving at work for my first day as Permanent Under-Secretary Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office - the UK Government’s international strategy & delivery dept. A great team doing brilliant diplomatic and development work for Britain’s interests, citizens & partnerships across the world.

The FCDO estate is lit in purple tonight to #LightTheDarkness, commemorating #HolocaustMemorialDay and the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation. Today, we remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust and all victims of Nazi persecution.

A productive two days in DC. It was great to speak with staff British Embassy Washington and across our wider US network. I also met with Christopher Landau Chris Landau, and look forward to working with Chris in his new role on our shared priorities.
