My journey eastward continues. I finally met with someone whom I should have met a long time ago - Dr. Takashi Nagasawa. All the amazing stories about the discovery of CAR cells. The room was packed with the audience - thank you, Kenji Hata, for inviting me to Osaka University!

Osaka U has a world-premier research-intensive dental school. I truly enjoyed the scientific discussions and Q&As after the talk! Special thanks to Kenji Hata, who is a 3rd generation dentist and doing mostly research like myself, and a new chairman of the Dept. of Biochemistry.

My journey turned westward and landed on Shikoku island. I truly enjoyed the visit to Ehime University. Special thanks to Yuuki Imai. They have a one-of-a-kind protein science center with impressive resources. Looking forward to collaborating with Yuuki and his team!

At Tokushima University, I reunited with my previous mentee, Hiro Manabe, an orthopedic surgeon, and my classmate Keiichi Hosaka, the chairman of restorative dentistry. Thank you both for organizing the seminar! I’m impressed with Tokushima's tightly knitted research community.

My first stop in Tokyo is Showa Medical University, visiting Masa Tsukasaki, a rising star of Japanese bone biology, highly deserving of leading this department with a giant footprint in bone biology. I truly enjoyed all the discussions - thank you, Masa, for inviting me to talk!

My next stop was U Tokyo, visiting a legendary osteoimmunologist, Hiroshi Takayanagi - he was my dissertation committee chair some 18 years ago while he was at TMDU! Thank you, Hiroshi, for inviting me to speak at your department, and for a wonderful night!

My third stop of the week is Iwaki, visiting a legendary steroid hormone bone biologist, Shigeaki Kato. It tells a story of how a private organization with a vision can promote science in a small hot spring town. Looking forward to catching up on exciting work from his team!

It was such a special feeling to give a talk at my alma mater, Tokyo Medical and Dental University (now the Institute of Science Tokyo), in a seminar hall that I used to sit on the other side of on numerous occasions. Too excited to notice a projector beam projecting on our face!

I completed my "Japan tour" at Tokyo Dental College, reuniting with Toshi Mizoguchi and Akira Yamaguchi. TDC is a prestigious private dental school with a well-equipped and mighty research enterprise. Thank you, Toshi, for inviting me to speak at TDC!
