The term โ€œHackerโ€ originated from a bunch of MIT students obsessed with model trains. In the late 1950s, the Tech Model Railroad Club was split into two primary factions: - Knife and Paintbrush - Signals and Power (S&P) S&P played fast and loose; disliking authority.

CD laser reader sensor | extracted from CD laser head. There was a clear plastic in the front fo the IC so the color aberration is visible even with Plan Apo objective. Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜›

My new WIRED piece about arXiv: either 1) the most important website you've never heard of or 2) the platform your entire field depends on Also had the pleasure of hanging out with its creator, Paul Ginspargโ€”the Forrest Gump of the Internet age

iโ€™m known to be picky about graphs, not usually into violin plots but this one kinda slaps - overlaying the box plot & scatter distribution is sparking joy

fucking insane. some fish use electrical signals to navigate; if two fish on the same frequency encounter each other, they automatically switch frequencies to avoid "signal jamming" each other. exactly like how your wifi router does at home. wow.

Exactly how I like learning about this stuff. MCMC is not a difficult concept to understand if you have the right person explain it to you.

If you missed it, Rive published an amazing technical blog post on how they built real vector feathering. It breaks down why default blur rendering doesn't cut it anymore and how they solved it. Super impressive work that shows why Rive is becoming so important

A 1990s era ISA card stands between me and owning a working wafer bonder. A Meilhaus ME-300 data acquisition card. It draws 800mA from 5v and all the voltage rails seem fine. Nothing gets hot while running. Im replacing the crystal todayโ€ฆ. Its twin brother works fine.
