3/n Then exploiting my favorite technology (tapered fibers OptogeniX ) he can compare in a single animal the effect of stimulating these separate pathways. The link between anatomy and functional effect is clear.

We are proud to be part of DEEPER_project , and support novel tech based on #taperedfibers and other systems for optical neural interfaces!

Interestingly autofluorescence and functional fluorescence couple differently to guided modes in the tapered fibers, probably because of the different refractive index of the medium where they are generated (the silica in one case, the brain in the other)

And therefore far-field imaging can be used to differentiate between the two!
