**No need to seed**. In all of these photos, degraded, formerly farmed ground, recovered itself, quickly, with a species-rich flora with no seeding. Nature did it. Local genetics. Local specialities & rarities. No cost. Something to think on...

The sweet smell of wood burning is largely caused by the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particularly syringol and guaiacol. These chemicals are released when lignin, a key component of wood, breaks down during combustion. Both compounds are typically present

What's absolutely essential is that if seal pups are on a beach you stay off the beach. All dogs on leads. NO selfies with seal pups! It's a critical time for seals. They need our help.

Massive thanks from all the Redwings , Fieldfares , other thrushes and finches , maybe even Waxwings , to this considerate ‘custodian of the countryside’ . No berries on here this winter . . . But don’t worry , our farmland birds are not in critical decline National Farmers' Union

As we head into Autumn, remember to #LeaveTheLeaves 🍂 Lots of little lives depend on those leaves, and our lives depend on theirs ❤️

Regarding the recent application by National Farmers' Union to allow 'emergency' use of neonics on sugar beet, this image explains the problem: most of the pesticide goes into soils, leaches into waterways, & is taken up by wildflowers & hedgerows. Only 5% in crop. nature.com/articles/natur…

What's the rush? You don't have to tidy too much 😉 There are so many creatures hiding in the nooks and crannies, snug inside the stems, sleeping under the petal and leaf duvet, confident they've found a safe place to survive the winter ☺️ A whole new world hides in decay!

The UK has dug up many of its orchards and now imports 70% of its apples, often from across the world. Planting apple trees in our gardens and communities - and protecting those we have - can cut food miles, soak up CO2, help wildlife, and can help save traditional varieties🍎

Don't Tidy the Garden too much this Winter: Leave the leaves. Leave the pesticides on the garden centre shelf. Leave the deadheads on the flowers. Leave the hedges to grow out. Then there will be more food left for the young Wrens in the Spring...
