On our Year 10 Mock Interview Day we asked employers to make a note of young people who impressed them with an outstanding interview so they could be put into a prize raffle, and we are delighted that 34 pupils were nominated! Great work Harry, Skye and Joe who won the vouchers.

Today we had a celebration breakfast for pupils involved in the fabulous Music Showcase at the end of last term. The event was a brilliant display of our pupils’ hard work and rich musical talent. Well done everyone – your contributions to school life make our community special!

We were pleased to welcome First Bus into the academy to talk to our Year 10 pupils about apprenticeship opportunities and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Apprenticeship Project, in partnership with First Buses, which Year 10 have been invited to apply for.

This week we had our first Wakefield Schools Athletics fixture at Thornes Park Athletics Track, where pupils competed against other schools on a brand new track. The team were a credit to the academy, competing to the very best of their ability and supporting one another.

This week our LRC staff have created a safe space dedicated to #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. This included inspirational quotes, useful resources and books designed to help support young people navigate their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Shoutout to some of our amazing athletes! Seth captains the U14s Sandal Rugby Club who won the U14s Yorkshire cup. Meanwhile Grace represented West Yorkshire in a netball tournament and rugby player Amelia has been picked for the West Yorkshire U15s! A credit to themselves.

Our Year 7 pupils' book borrowing has literally been 'off the charts' this week, with an amazing 155 loans! They've been stocking up ready for the half term break - great to see so much enthusiasm for reading. 📚

All of Year 10 recently attended an apprenticeships assembly with First Buses, and some of them applied for a mentoring project with the organisation. They have attended workshops in school, carried out an employer visit and meet current apprentices. Thank you to First Buses!

Huge congratulations to Year 10 footballer Abbie, who has been selected for England’s U15 Women’s team in next week’s international fixture against the Netherlands. An amazing achievement – well done and best of luck! We will be cheering you on.

We are absolutely delighted that 20 of our pupils have had their work selected for publication in the upcoming Young Writers ‘Grim Tales’ anthology of short stories. Congratulations everyone!

Last week we had positive recognition assemblies to celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals in our school community, whether it was academic excellence, acts of kindness, or going the extra mile!

Well done to the 124 Year 7 and 8 pupils who took on the UK Maths Trust Junior Mathematical Challenge. Many of them were in the top-scoring 50% of participants, receiving Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates – amazing! We are super proud of everyone who got involved. #UKMTChallenge

On Wednesday our Year 12 geographers were out and about in the sunshine completing coastal fieldwork. They assessed the impact of erosion on sediment along the Holderness Coast and surveyed the views of people in Hornsea about the engineering work taking place there.
