A fascinating study published by The Journal of Pain with some surprising results. TCOM students led by Dr. John Licciardone looked at the impact of shared decision-making between patients and physicians on opioid prescriptions. See what they found. 👇 tinyurl.com/kcu6evdh

A ground-breaking study led by Dr. John Licciardone and TCOM students Branden Adams, Kaylee Dahl, and Hanna Lewis shows the osteopathic difference. Patients suffering from chronic pain had better outcomes when seeing DOs. Terrific work, everyone! 👉tinyurl.com/3xjvfaxc

Our latest ORC publication reports that a target trial emulation of shared decision-making resulted in more frequent opioid prescribing for chronic pain over 12 months, without additional benefits. Better SDM training appears warranted, including linkage with EBM curricula.

Congratulations to 30 @TCOM_UNTHSC students on completing ORC’s Summer Program in Clinical Research. Six student research teams will conduct projects involving target trial emulations or cohort studies to address research questions about chronic pain treatments and outcomes.

The objective of this study — degruyterbrill.com/document/doi/1… — was to compare longitudinal outcomes of patients with fibromyalgia (FM), chronic widespread pain (CWP), or localized chronic low back pain to determine whether FM is an extreme manifestation of the CWP continuum
