OPFD's FF Rottinghause, FF Schnoebelen, FM Konzem & Capt. Feuerborn were among those recognized at an OverlandParkRegional Great Save event for care provided to Tatum Boynton after a significant trauma. Tatum said she fought to live, partly because so many people were fighting for her.

2nd leading cause of fire in OP- Investigators believe careless discard of smoking material caused last evening's apartment fire at 140th and Newton. No injuries, but three apartments displaced. Cigarettes can smolder for hours. Extinguish cigarettes in sand or water to be safe!

July is the peak month for grill fires! 1. Keep the grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and overhanging branches. 2. Check for gas leaks. 3. Clean the grill regularly. 4. Never leave the grill unattended! 5. Have a fire extinguisher nearby at all times.

Fireworks are strictly banned in Overland Park — purchasing, possessing, or discharging of any kind can land you a fine of up to $500. For a safe and dazzling Fourth, leave the fireworks to the professionals and head to Star Spangled Spectacular! The fireworks start at 10:00 p.m.
