Troy towns or turf mazes can be found across the country, including this example at Somerton. They have links back to ancient myths, as the walls of Troy were thought to have been built with many complex twists and turns. #EYAMythology #ExploreYourArchive

The Oxford Coat of Arms contains 4 animals, a fording Ox, an English lion, an elephant thought to represent Sir Francis Knollys and a green beaver to represent Henry Norreys. They were courtiers of Elizabeth I, hence the Tudor rose. #ExploreYourArchive #EYAAnimals

We have just published on Picture Oxon bit.ly/oji1918 over 800 historic images from the 'Oxford Journal Illustrated' newspaper dating from 1918, following digitisation by one of our volunteers. They include military photos and follow the 1915-17 images already available.

Today is the start of #Archive30, and the first theme is #YourArchive. Oxfordshire History Centre is based at St Luke’s Church in Cowley, where we look after over 800 years of the county’s history!

For #ArchiveBeginnings this book shows our first visitors to our archive in April 1935, including Philip Allen from the Home Office. The quarter sessions, enclosure awards and Dillon estate collection appear popular resources, which we can’t say has changed much! #Archive30
