Excellent news- the track was extremely intrusive on a major visitor attraction National Trust for Scotland Bannockburn, and we opposed it forcefully. Compromising heritage sites which are major tourist attractions should not be acceptable.

There is relatively little understanding of how tourism boosts the economy. Other countries are much better than we are- Vienna earns over €10bn from tourism & has much higher visitor numbers for its top sites. Lamenting how it used to be isn’t the key to a better tomorrow.

Scottish exceptionalism comes in at least 2 forms: that the country would be paradise on earth if it were independent & that it is so completely useless at everything that it’s a work of charity to take it in. Normality would be a start…

Thanks Angry Pict for this long summary thread. A full-length study, 'The British Army and Imperial Policy after Culloden' is due out from OUP History in 2027/28, which will foreground the struggle between the army and the politicians from 1746 to 1760.

Are we injuring the goose that lays the golden eggs ?The impact of Find us at @edfringe is far from ubiquitously popular with politicians or residents, but Edinburgh's global position is one other cities can only envy-Scottish exceptionalism is a risk- #CreativeEconomyKe

Gaelic medium HE (1973); An Comunn (1984); Meek Report (2002), Am Bord (2003); Gaelic Language Act (2005): 2 by the Tories, three by Labour. Mission schools tend to do better- their relative absence in Scotland is often used as a criticism. Gaelic ed expands because of demand.

Since 2011, the Scottish Government has supported the purchase of 1,097 buses, the majority built at Alexanders. Scottish Green Bus Fund: 297 buses. Scottish Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme: 272 buses. Scottish Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund: 528 buses (Phase 1 + Phase 2).

This controversy about Scot Hist in schools is interesting. It was embedded until end of Leaving Cert era- from 1962 often much rarer (but depending on school/teacher) until 1990s & only formally required from 2009 for certificate- but still big variety in teacher discretion

In my school there was no Scot Hist at all & I thought the curriculum chaotic- so gave it up & did the London board exams in History & Ancient History on the side- they made a lot more sense. Lack of national curriculum means a lot of these experiences on both sides are valid.

🚨 “Not For EU” Label. Check your asparagus. 🇲🇽 Mexican asparagus in Sainsbury's may be grown with pesticides banned in the EU, including carbofuran and paraquat. 🥵 No EU label = No EU safety standards. 🇬🇧 Post-Brexit, UK rules are weaker. 🧪 Lower testing. Less traceability.

Important to gain cross party support for the next step forward for the languages of Scotland. I was in a class with someone told off for saying ‘Ay’ as a pupil. Legal frameworks enable respect. Thanks to all Billy Kay ✨Lentil Pentil✨ & many more.
