Here's an article from PECARN's DKA Fluid Group published in September 2021. It's interesting because it looks at what influenced parental permission for a child in a DKA study. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34546895/

The work PECARN does impacts the lives of children. Across the nation, providers in emergency departments use the 'PECARN decision rule for minor head trauma' but, few know how it came about and the research backing it: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19758692/

Did you know that PECARN updated it's logo recently? The network's new logo unifies us as researchers in emergency medical services for children. (Our research coordinator logo remains the same.)

DKA is such a serious condition in children. We are so glad the work of PECARN in the FLUID study is still paying off. This month there was an article posted in the Journal of Pediatrics about pyuria and kids with DKA. jpeds.com/article/S0022-…

PECARN's ED-STARS II study results suggest that both the ASQ & the CASSY are appropriate for universal screening in pediatric EDs. For patients with psychiatric symptoms, the CASSY shows greater predictive validity. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36790810/

PECARN researchers are always at work...here is a publication from April of this year: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36606705/

The fluid study continues to inform us...Most children with DKA have mild-to-moderate dehydration. Although biochemical measures were more closely associated with severity of dehydration, neither were sufficiently predictive to inform rehydration practice. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37024382/

This PECARN study looked at children with sickle cell disease who often require care in the ED. The objective was to assess the use and impact of intranasal fentanyl for the treatment of these children on discharge from the emergency department. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/aj…
