Rafał #Lemkin was a 🇵🇱 lawyer of Jewish origin and a Holocaust survivor who coined the term #genocide to punish and prevent mass murder from recurring in the future. He initiated works on the Genocide Convention, the UN's first human rights treaty. Lemkin was born #OTD in 1900.

During the 93rd session of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Standing Committee, 🇵🇱 underscored that smart humanitarian and economic policies can go hand in hand. According to the recent #UNHCR study, in 2024 input of Ukrainian refugees generated 2,7% of the entire Polish GDP.

At the #ECOSOC side-event on protecting health care, Amb. M. Broiło pointed out that health facilities should be sanctuaries where lives are saved and health is nurtured. He also paid tribute to health care workers whose courage and commitment remain an inspiration to humanity.

Speaking on behalf the #EU, Amb. M. Broiło started general debate of the #ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment. He stressed three pillars of principled humanitarian action: compliance with IHL, adjusting the system to its purpose and addressing the funding gap.

At #HRC59 in dialogue with Irene Khan LT on behalf of 🇵🇱🇺🇦🇱🇹 stressed the increasing restrictions on freedom of opinion, civil & political rights in neighbouring RU&BY, where citizens are deprived of their right to democratically elect their leadership. 📜bit.ly/4jZIkAF

Two 🇺🇳 UN Youth Delegates representing 🇵🇱 Poland delivered their interventions during the interactive dialogues with UN Special Rapporteurs on Freedom of Expression and on the Right to Education at the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council, presenting the unique point of view and insight.

Each year, 20 June marks World Refugee Day, an international day established to honour people who have been forced to flee their home countries to escape conflict or persecution. Poland has been supporting UNRWA for years.

In light of the events in Gaza in 2025, Poland 🇵🇱 has decided to provide additional funding amounting to USD 1 million. We believe that UNRWA plays a key role in providing assistance to Palestinian refugees living in the Middle East.

At the 59th session of the 🇺🇳 Human Rights Council, 🇵🇱 Poland - speaking as the country concerned - reaffirmed its continued engagement and dialogue with the UN Independent Expert on SOGI, in striving towards achieving equality and upholding the rights of all.

Igancy Jan Paderewski legacy lives on in #Morges, where he spent +40 years. 1st ever urban game devoted to Paderewski took place as part of the Music Festival. Participants had the opportunity to discover Paderewski as a politician, composer, superstar, traveller & neighbour.

On #InternationalDayOfWomenInDiplomacy, we honor Natalia Aszkenazy, 🇵🇱 first woman diplomat posted abroad. As a press officer in Embassy of Poland U.S. 1939-1941, she lectured across 🇺🇸 on Polish #WW2 struggles, and later worked in the USSR as the only woman in local diplomatic corps.

Today is #WomenInDiplomacyDay! The women of Poland in the UN are driving progress on sustainable development, human rights, and peace & security - keeping 🇵🇱 front and center at the United Nations. Today head of PL in UN Geneva, Mirosław Broiło, presented letters of credence to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of UN Geneva, accrediting him as a Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to #UNOG.

As the 🇵🇱 Presidency comes to an end, PL in UN Geneva hosted a concert by D. Miśkiewicz & M. Napiórkowski, followed by reception for EUMS and candidate countries. 6 months were summarised and the presidency baton was unofficially passed to the Denmark in UN Geneva 🇩🇰. Good luck, Colleagues!
