Road users advised to expect traffic delays in Newcastle on Sunday 17th August, due to a planned parade. Parade begins at 3pm at Donard Park, then moving along Central Promenade to Main Street & onto Railway Street, Dundrum Road finishing at Castlewellan Road at around 4.30pm.

The A1 is currently shut to road users. Officers are assisting with diversions A1 southbound at Carnbane and A1 northbound at Camlough Roundabout. Please find an alternative route at this time.

The A1 has re-opened to traffic following an earlier closure.

Newcastle Traffic Info Large parade in Newcastle this evening. Traffic will be disrupted between approximately 7pm and 11pm. The parade is on Main Street and Shimna Road. Diversions will be in place & residents, customers, carers etc will be facilitated as best possible.

Motorists are advised that a collision on the A1 at the Hillsborough Road roundabout is causing disruption to citybound traffic. Please seek an alternative route where possible, and expect delays in the area.

There will likely be some traffic delay in Newcastle this weekend due to two planned parades. Tonight, a parade will leave Main Street at 7pm to Shimna Road, due to end at 11pm. Then on Saturday, a parade will start at 1pm from the Downs Road along Main Street.

Detectives investigating the murder of Sean Small in Newcastle have this morning, Thursday 28th August, been granted a court extension of an additional 36 hours to question man in his 40s arrested on suspicion of his murder.

Detectives from our Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of Sean Small (84) in Newcastle, have charged a man with his murder. The 41-year-old man is due to appear before Newtownards Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
