Meet KL2 scholar Emily Hohman, assistant research professor at Penn State HHD and Penn State Center for Childhood Obesity Research. Her research seeks to understand the day-to-day variation in self-regulation of eating behaviors of children living in rural areas and how factors such as sleep influence those behaviors.


Meet KL2 scholar Alaina Pearce, assistant research professor at Penn State SSRI. She will study brain mechanisms that support eating behavior and resiliency to obesity in children living in rural areas.


Meet KL2 scholar Susan Veldheer, assistant professor at Penn State College of Medicine. She has partnered with Penn State Extension to develop a digital gardening intervention to target multiple health behaviors to impact cardiovascular disease risk.

A responsive parenting intervention at infant ages 3 & 8 weeks improved African American mothers’ feeding practices at 16 weeks, such that intervention mothers reported more responsive feeding & less pressure-based feeding than control mothers.
