Weed problems come in all forms! Dr. Stephen L Meyers is a Purdue Agriculture Hort Extension Weed Scientist, & today he's on a blueberry grower collaborator farm. He's looking at fluroxypyr & epyrifenacil to control weeds like sassafras, dewberry, oaks, red sorrel, & black cherry. #PUweeds

It was a busy day at the ACRE farm for the PU weeds crew. We sprayed POSTs in a spray drone vs. ground rig trial & collected deposition, coverage, & swath data. Weed control from PREs was already taken, and now we'll evaluate the POSTs for season long spray programs. #PUweeds

The next student spotlight is Marcelo Zimmer. He's from southern Brazil & is wrapping up his PhD under Bill Johnson. He's researched herb. antagonism & using See & Spray to help resolve it. After graduation, he's joining the U. of Kentucky as an Ext. Weed Scientist. #PUweeds

This morning's spotlight is Jada Davis. She is a M.S. student from east central IL working under Dr. Bryan Young. She's evaluating weed control and corn tolerance to a ME form. of saflufenacil (Surtain). After graduation, she plans to be a tech service rep in ag chem. #PUweeds

Earlier this week, Dr. Stephen L Meyers and his team were helping get more tools in hort crop producers' toolbox. They took stand counts & vigor ratings in an IR-4 funded study to look at reduced plant-backs for Zidua to watermelon, spinach, green beans, & Lima beans. #PUweeds

Abi Norsworthy is from NW AR & is a M.S. student under Dr. Bryan Young. She's exploring diflufenican & other bleaching herbicides using spectral imaging to ID chemical stress & evaluate efficacy & soy injury. After her M.S., she plans to pursue a PhD in Weed Science. #PUweeds

A lot of flattened and root lodged corn from storms today in NW to Central Indiana. Majority of the corn will “gooseneck” and recover fine at current vegetative stages. Still hate to see it, especially on a lot of great looking corn in these areas. Purdue Agriculture Purdue Agronomy

Tommy Butts team is working with a Solinftec North America Solix autonomous site-specific sprayer. This machine uses RTK & machine learning algorithms for weed detection & precise application. Research is exploring hit rate, efficacy, herbicide savings, & potential yield benefits. #PUweeds
