📣 DCU announces all PhD stipends to be raised to 22k. 📣 No increase to the proposed 25k in the Review. 📣 No clear support for PhD employment rights, sick pay, parental leave. 22k is a major win for PWO Ireland & DCU local branch. But it is far short of what we deserve (1/2)

Great article this morning on issues facing underpaid PhDs in Ireland - an issue that has seen little progress under the watch of your soon-to-be Taoiseach Simon Harris TD irishtimes.com/ireland/educat…

Simon Harris TD you've got unfinished business. Pay us enough to live. Recognise our work! #PGRsDeserveBetter

PhDs in Trinity College Dublin have wildly different working conditions despite having the same job. Lack of transparency is used by schools and departments to enforce arbitrary rules, and we have no power to resist. We need CLEAR policies FOR ALL. WALK OUT WITH US forms.gle/LhrSTHrUxcFCkA…

This directly contravenes Revenue rules on scholarship stipend exemption conditions. Scholarships cannot be paid in return for work. That needs to go under PAYE and PRSI contributions must be paid for the recipient. Department of Further and Higher Education Linda Doyle Trinity College Dublin Trinity Business School

Never have I been more embarrassed to associated with Trinity College Dublin. This is what Linda Doyle and the university admin does to PhDs protesting for the right to maternity leave, a minimum wage and basic social insurance payments.

Completely unacceptable intimidation and escalation tactics from Trinity College Dublin leadership. Those individuals/groups on the receiving end of these threats have done essential work in elevating the views & needs of their academic community — a job that TCD has repeatedly failed to do.
