I am full of optimism as I begin my tenure as CEO of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab . We have a mission to fulfill — to deliver the best patient outcomes by translating research discoveries into practice — and I am thrilled to partner with an incredible team on this shared journey.

Listening, learning, leading: I had the privilege of speaking before hundreds of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab team members at our all-employee meeting. I expressed my enthusiasm for hearing all voices as, together, we propel this organization — and our field — forward for the benefit of patients.

Recently, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab marked its 15th #SkyRiseChicago and I marked my first. Climbing The Willis Tower, I heard from patients as they shared stories of recovery — their awesome accomplishments reflect what’s possible when care and science come together.

I recently cheered the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Blackhawks as they cruised to victory. In watching these adaptive sled hockey players, I saw ability in action. We are thrilled to collaborate with Chicago ParkDistrict on this program. Learn more about our adaptive sports: bit.ly/2srsgko

I am honored to be featured in Crain's Chicago Business Who’s Who in Chicago Business. This city has accepted me with open arms, and I’m humbled to be included among its dynamic leaders.

I had the pleasure of seeing Shirley Ryan AbilityLab's mission in action when visiting Specialized Rehab Hospital, our international affiliate. We discussed ways to continue raising the bar for rehabilitation in the UAE & beyond. I enjoyed spending time with colleagues (& new modes of transportation!).

Reflecting on a successful #Physiatry24. It was a pleasure connecting with fellow Assoc. of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) leaders, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab colleagues and alumni, and new friends 🐊. Our network is expansive, vibrant and engaged!

Seven years ago today, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) became Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Seven years — and seven decades — in, we reflect on this legacy and embrace our vision with renewed energy. I can’t imagine a better team as we forge ahead on this journey.

Thank you to the nearly 200 volunteers who worked with our patients and staff at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab this last year. Their service is essential in helping our patients reach successful outcomes. I’m grateful for our volunteers this #NationalVolunteerWeek and every week!!

At Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, our nurses are helpers and healers. Thank you for all that you do!

I had the privilege of attending #SSNR2024 in Spain--speaking & engaging with leading minds in #neurorehabilitation from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (pictured) and other institutions around the globe. Special thanks to Jose L. Pons & Jesús Tornero for organizing another successful summer school!

When we continue to do great work, the world continues to take notice. So proud of our Shirley Ryan AbilityLab community!!

We are honored to be part of this new era in Detroit, and thrilled to partner with the Gilbert Family Foundation & Henry Ford Health to bring the best physical medicine and rehabilitation care to this community. Now, Detroiters will find hope, healing and recovery close to home.

What a year it’s been! I reflect on my first year as Shirley Ryan AbilityLab CEO with pride and gratitude at where we’ve been and on all that we’ve accomplished. Thanks to those who have been part of this remarkable journey — for your commitment to our mission, patients and future.

Proud to collaborate with my Shirley Ryan AbilityLab colleagues Ronan Mooney and Manuel Alejandro Anaya + Joan Stilling on newly published research exploring heightened reticulospinal excitability after severe corticospinal damage in chronic #stroke.
