We finally broke ground on our first energy positive house! The foundation base is now in place for our fully-insulated slab-on-grade system. Next up... a flurry of work building panels in the factory.

Things are going swimmingly in the factory. Here's the front of the house assembled for verification and testing (without siding yet, of course). The vertical strips create a "rainscreen" for improved water control and long-term siding performance.

Happiness is... Underslab EPS insulation going in for our first energy positive home!

The foundation is in for our first energy positive home. Yesterday we did a test run with our insulated wall panel assembly and it went better than expected. Next week, weather permitting, the whole house structure will go up and we'll be weathered in. Finally, the exciting part!

No time for a long description... Too much work. But going great. Walls are up. Next stop roof and we'll be weathered in. #padsmart #energypositive

We passed our final inspection today! Yes, that took a LONG time... but it was our first time and we are really happy with how the house turned out. More to come in a couple months once the landscaping is done and we have some professional pics.

Bingo! Our first energy positive home is officially energy positive. Below is a summary of the April electric bill. That's solar energy powering heating, cooling, hot water, and everything else... In Northeast Ohio no less. I love it when a plan comes together.

We finally have our testing and certification results back on our first energy positive home. It's officially an ENERGY STAR certified home with an amazingly low HERS index (for those of you who know and care what that means): -46 (negative forty six).

Just in case you were wondering if cloudy Cleveland days are a problem... they're not. Still enough to bank energy for nighttime and (less productive) winter months. In full sun the production is 2 to 3 times greater.
