In February 2025, Ambassador Ilana Seid attended the 2025 Climate Integrity Summit, as Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). H.E. Seid delivered a speech on the critical role of integrating ocean-based solutions to combatting #climatechange 🌏.

Last month, the Republic of Palau 🇵🇼 was proudly represented at The Economist Impact’s 12th Annual World Ocean Summit in Tokyo 🇯🇵, led by H.E. President Surangel Whipps, Jr.

On March 13–14, AOSIS Chair Ambassador Ilana Seid & Climate Advisor Tiffany Van Ravenswaay joined the Japan-Brazil Dialogue in Tokyo to advance global climate cooperation ahead of #COP30 🌍🤝. The message is clear: we need more ambition on #ClimateFinance & robust implementation.

On March 30–31, 2025, H.E. Amb. Seid attended the #SOSOcean Summit in Paris 🇫🇷, joining leaders to advocate for urgent ocean action ahead of #UNOC3 🌊. The French President Emmanuel Macron also lit up the Eiffel Tower blue to show a shared commitment to #protectouroceans. 💙🤝

Earlier this month, the Palau Mission 🇵🇼 hosted a special screening of Palau’s Ocean Stewards at the Singapore Mission 🇸🇬, featuring National Geographic Pristine Seas' film on Palau’s marine conservation and cultural connection to the ocean 🌊🐠.

On April 10, H.E. Amb. Seid met with H.E. Amb. Yamazaki Kazuyuki of Japan to discuss strengthening Palau🇵🇼-Japan🇯🇵 ties at the UN and across the region. They explored opportunities to deepen collaboration and shared priorities for ocean action and regional cooperation 🌊🤝.

On April 16, 2025, Mr. Charles Mitchell Reklai delivered remarks at the #BBNJ High Ambition Coalition relaunch in NYC, representing Palau as Co-Chair. As the 1st nation to ratify the treaty, Palau continues to lead on ocean protection and support meaningful engagement of #SIDS🏝️.

On April 29, H.E. Amb. Ilana Seid, representing Palau as Chair of #AOSIS delivered the keynote at the #FFD4 Prepcomm Side Event on DSSS. She called for urgent financial reform and reaffirmed DSSS as a SIDS-led path to equity, resilience, and sustainable development.

On May 7–8, 2025, Minister Victor, Mr. Aitaro, and H.E. Ambassador Seid represented Palau as Chair of AOSIS, at the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial. This meeting marked a critical step in building momentum, fostering engagement, and driving unified efforts toward #climatejustice.

On May 9, 2025, H.E. Amb. Seid delivered a statement on behalf of #AOSIS on the zero draft for the 2nd World Social Summit Declaration, calling for concise, action-focused outcomes aligned with UN frameworks and reaffirming the inclusion of #SIDS in global development efforts🌍.

On April 23, 2025, First Secretary Ianthe met with delegates from Indonesia 🇮🇩for a productive exchange on strengthening cooperation—not only at the United Nations 🇺🇳, but also at the national level—reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
