If Albo really wants to hold on to a new generation of ALP voters, neutering the factions would be a great start. And if that means the Deputy Prime Minister has to go so be it. You can like/dislike ALP winning, but Albo owns that win 99% and should be able to reform the ALP.

Heading from Sydney to Geneva and then on to Les Diablerets for Gordon Conference on Self-assembly & Supramolecular Chemistry. Looking forward to caching up with friends and making new in the majestic Swiss Alpine surroundings. #ozchem #supramolecular

True! It is early days but maybe, just maybe she can lead them out of delusional culture & climate chamber and into to the light towards the small "l" liberal party that Australia needs as a counterbalance to ALP. She has one big +, she has actual & diverse work experiences.

Think people that make fun of Sussan Ley should read this. I know the bar is very low but she seems to be most interesting and thoughtful leader Libs have had at least since Turnbull if not way further back. Albo should not take for granted that she will be easy to beat.

This is spot on. And with the Nats gone, maybe the Liberal party can come back to its senses and become again a progressive "l" liberal party with 21st century energy policies.

Former President of Iceland is spending his summer break from Uni (he is a Professor there) as a tour guide at Þingvellir (Thingvellir), one of Iceland's most popular tourist destinations. It is like going to Mt Rushmore and having George W Bush as a guide!

The beauty that is the Australian election system strikes again. You can't win elections inside an echo chamber because everyone (has to) vote. Bonus with this story: #MurdochGutterMedia has lost all of its power. Best thing to happen to Australia in 2025.

Hastie is on the money here. The No vote against the Voice, sad as it all was, actually ended up strengthening Albo in the eyes of the public as it demonstrated to people that he was willing to sacrifice things (especially his popularity short term) for his own convictions.

Politically impossible but actually would make most people better off. Say a couple with $1M land ($1.4M house) = $40k in land tax. Unless they earn less than ca $180K combined they are already better off. As below need to treat pensioners differently. But would be an improvement

Off from Sydney to Vopnafjörður Iceland to catch up with my parents (travelling via Perth, London, Keflaví, Reykjavík, Akureyri). Then back to Reykjavík for meetings and then to Boston for Bio25.

As always, Kos has the finger on the pulse. Sky after dark is not the future for the LNP. Early signs are that Sussan Ley gets that but too many of her party members still got their heads in the Murdoch sand. And Labor needs also to take note of these seismic changes.

With my light teaching load this impacts me less than others but it is demoralising to have only 3 of 64 students attending lectures. This is not sustainable. People will lose the will to teach this way. Can we not just admit the lecture is dead & buried & make some big changes?
