New paper in PNASNews on "Composition of dried drop stains from photos" . In a nutshell: we took 7500 images of 42 different salts, trained ML, and can now predict composition from single unknown photos. Below are KNO3 and NaNO3 examples. #FSU #Chemistry pnas.org/doi/epdf/10.10…

We show that water hardness can be detected from simple photos using AI and large image libraries. As the limescale stains are faint, we amplify the effect of the Ca/Mg ions by reporter salts such as NaHCO3. Check out our paper in ES&T doi.org/10.1021/acs.es…
