Happy #ThickTrunkTuesday from the Guildford Big Tree! This remarkable River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) has a girth of 9.35 m and is estimated to be between 500 and 1000 years old. But it's the 34m canopy spread that we're obsessed with. And all those hollows!!!

Great poem and an important message… but the photo is of a musk lorikeet (Glossopsitta concinna) not a Critically Endangered swift parrot (Lathamus discolor). Sorry to be a spoilsport…

More budgerigars. They're amazing creatures. I will not be entertaining notions that budgies are not the best parrot. Going forward, this evening, I will outline why other parrots are inferior. This is the hill I will die on. #worldparrotday #budgiesarebest

thinking of when i found redredD(ebra) in her nest in Jan 2022 - this was 6 years after meeting her as a chick in 2016 (she's one of the babies in the 2nd pic). Debra is the oldest OBP mother in the wild & the last of the truly 'wild' lineages of this species 😍

#NotAParrot Relatively uncommon in our neck of the woods, a fairy tern (Sternula nereis) we saw today on #BoonWurrungCountry at Ricketts Point, SE bayside suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. About half the size of the crested terns we typically see #ownpic

Fantastic to finally meet @sakshiaravind and Guy Jackson today and to introduce them to a few of the locals at Cardinia Reservoir Park and Dandenong Ranges National Park, east of Melbourne, Australia #ownpics

Black-cockatoo pants alert! #BirdsWithPants Yellow-tails have such long legs compared to Karak (Forest Red-tails). It’s likely due to different foraging behaviour and more time spent on the ground.
