I'm sure that's the case. My West Ukranian friend's anti-semitism was far from unique. Tied in with her view of Bolshevism. But in my view better to be exposed and rebutted, than fester under the surface.

That's true. The Protestant vs Catholic was very fierce when I was growing up. And in Northern Ireland. But nothing as universal geographically.

I live in Andalusia and I find the role model of an advanced Arab civilisation with Arabs and Jews living in harmony with Visigoth Christians very appealing - before the reconquest. I'm sure someone will debunk it, but even as a mythical template it's valuable for peace.

I can imagine. In the Irish republic there was similar rejection of protestants who my Irish Catholic mother saw as lost souls. So when my best friend was a protestant she sabotaged our friendship. She saw it as her Catholic duty.

That's tragic. But they seem to have been treated worse under the Christians who threw out Muslims and Jews alike. I would love to have produced a girls comic story (my original forte) with a Jewish girl and a Muslim girl on the run together from Torquemada's henchmen.

I didn't know that. Interesting. There were also Irish slaves who were sent to Barbados and their descendants are still there.

Absolutely agree. And Israel and our own pro-Zionist media do it regularly. So independent Jewish opinions - like Gilad Atzman The Wandering Who? - are castigated or unheard of in our media.

I'd heard that, but I couldn't recall my source. Similarly, Iranians have said to me that indigenous Jews are treated well there - altho the country is not a democracy. Inevitably there would be past pogroms and I saw at least one on that historical list.

That was my understanding. Ottoman Empire was awful, but what followed in 1918 was worse with Britain's need for oil being a key issue.

Pat Mills (@patmillscomics) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I didn't know they had reneged on that promise. I don't think they offered a similar citizenship to Arabs of Andalusian origins

IIRC Robert Newman's excellent comedy History of Oil suggests Britain new Iraq had potential oil as early as 1914 because he relates how a first British military action took place there

Just writing next Ragtime Soldier with the Dundee Battle Cry: 'Marmalade!' featuring strongly. So Scottish! Not sure the Irish in WW1 would have 'Guinness!' as their battle cry. Maybe 'Fuck Cromwell'? So much unrecorded history as historians focus on justifying mass-murderer Haig

You're making a strong case for exceptionalism. But every nation I've encountered makes a similar strong case for their exceptionally bad treatment by others. (Serbs for instance). Winning hearts & minds - rather than bombing - is a better way to ensure it doesn't happen again.
