LFHC joined ACORN the union SHAC London Renters Union @Homes4AllUK and other housing campiagners in Westminster today, as the Government introduced its new budget. LHFC called for tenant-led cooperative housing, alongside genuinely affordable social housing and new council homes!

We are calling on Labour MPs to vote against the benefit cuts. Tenants will be hard hit by them. 59% of social renters have at least one person who has a long-term illness or a disability. 73% of council tenants have no savings. Arrears for council tenants reached £397 in 2022/3.

We need a new Left party that harnesses community, campaign and trade union activity from below, but does not shy away from bold, national leadership. There are significant moves towards such a party, but time is short. We will not be forgiven if we miss this moment.

If the previously announced £2 billion supports 18,000 homes, £3.9 billion a year adds up to 35,100 a year. But what will go to social rent when the government is maintaining the Tory definition of "affordable housing", including "affordable rent" and "affordable private rent"?
