Our News is Out: National Queer Media Collaborative publishers rocked it at NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists last week!



Newsrooms covering natural disasters have often found launching a text service is the best way to distribute info. NOLA's done this after hurricanes, the Statesman and Texas Tribune after the winter storm. Who's doing it for Asheville local news? Anything in the works David Cohn?

October is LGBTQ+ History Month, and 100 years ago the first gay publication launched in the U.S. Will you donate to News is Out: National Queer Media Collaborative to help support the next 100 years of LGBTQ+ journalism? I struggle to think of a news organization using this much real estate on a homepage to remind citizens of an important deadline: The last day to register to vote in Texas. Bravo Texas Tribune. Maybe journalists should include more urgent messaging like this to empower readers:

We as an industry are not paying attention enough to the data in the Medill Local News Initiative that breaks down each county and the voting records. There's a correlation between news deserts and those who voted for Trump. Too much of our efforts are going to the wrong communities:
