Today the people of Newfoundland and Labrador lay to rest an Unknown Soldier returned from France. The Newfoundland Regiment fought in Gallipoli, at the #Somme, Cambrai, in 3rd Ypres, and the 100 days. This trench marker from the #Somme is on display at Imperial War Museums Lambeth Road #FWW

Today in 1945, and Churchill visits the ruins of Berlin prior to the start of the Potsdam conference. He toured the ruins of the Reichs Chancellery, the Reichstag, and Hitler's bunker under the guidance of the Soviets #SWW (Images Imperial War Museums BU 8952, 8962, 8949, and 8955)



A flypast has honoured the bravery of Britain’s last surviving Victoria Cross holder in Aberdeen. A Catalina flew over where 104-year-old John Cruickshank lives. He was awarded the VC, 80 years ago today for his part in sinking a German submarine in 1944. More on BBC Scotland News
