These photos are of the same Downy willow, with one taken in September 2021, and one in December this year. Snow cover is important for montane willows as it provides protection for the plant through the long winter months, and also a flush of nutrients in the spring.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves, millions of people are worried about #wildlife, even if some developers want to wash their hands of it. The best way to stop people worrying about chalk streams, dormice, wildflower meadows and, yes, bats isn't to deregulate. It's to #RestoreNatureNow

Driven grouse shooting is about killing animals for fun, which personally I have never understood and it disgusts me. Plus the damage to ecosystems from the raising of grouse. Wild Justice is right to oppose it. Signed.

Right now, the UK Government is considering cuts to the nature-friendly farming budget – the biggest pot of funding for nature. Here’s why that would be a disaster for farmers, food security, and wildlife. A thread. 🧵👇

I've been informed by DEFRA that 27 million animals (2.6% of all processed) in 2024 were slaughtered for halal meat without being stunned. It's an unnecessarily cruel and horrifically painful way for an animal to die. As a farmer, I very much believe that it should be banned.

This is a photo of a bee in the US The pollen on her legs is from dandelions & her tongue is sticking out because she’s been killed due to weed killer on dandelion flowers Remember this #Spring what many see as weeds, is natures food for #insects No bees, no insects, no life

Excoriating from ⁦George Monbiot on Government’s new Planning Bill which “betrays an undemocratic impatience with the people, motivated by the blatant appeasement of corporate power…the worst assault on England’s ecosystems in living memory”👇 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

A 63% decline in flying insects in just 3 years. WE CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT INSECTS. A sane society would be doing EVERYTHING in its power to reverse our unprecedented biodiversity loss. Instead we’re led by growth-obsessed psychopaths intent on hastening it.

Labour promised to restore nature. Instead, their Planning Bill contains a licence to destroy it. We offered solutions. We’re done waiting. Part 3 of the Bill would gut the laws protecting our most precious habitats & species. Without significant change, it must be scrapped.

Astonishing. What is the problem in this government. From swift bricks to farming and much in between, nature we depend upon including legal targets are not getting the support I believe was promised.
