This one of those times that the advisories from NHC likely won't keep up with the rapid intensification. Newest one may already by outdated.

MUST SEE: The satellite presentation of Hurricane Melissa is both scary & beautiful. Note the eyewall mesoscale vortices, smaller areas of satellite rotation that can be seen violently spinning around the eye. Gravity waves, like ripples on a pond, can be seen radiating outward

Eyewall coming ashore in western Jamaica. Note the meso vortices in the eye along with a sloped cloud configuration. This is the "stadium effect" and only appears with the most intense hurricanes.

Melissa makes landfall near New Hope, Jamaica. Maximum sustain winds 185 mph. makes it second to Allen in 1980 for highest wind speeds in the Atlantic. At 892mb it was also one of the lowest pressures on record next to the Labor Day Hurricane

This storm is a wind maker...along with some hefty downpours later this evening. The parting gift may be some wet flakes/mix in the highest elevations of the Greens Halloween night. Oh the horror!

Solid PRE (predecessor rain event) will clip Cape Cod & the Islands tonight as it pushes north. That will get us into 2-3" rainfall territory there.

Tonight's storm over us will undergo bombogenesis by morning off Cape Breton Island, NS (pic 1). If you're counting, that's two bombs in the Maritime provinces in less than a week...& another by Thu. I suspect the long wave trof is over us. Real cold pours in next week (pic 2)!

Winds will come up overnight as a storm system intensifies near Nova Scotia. It's zipping along, so winds ramp down gradually tomorrow afternoon.
