Great treat to see the precious interiors of Heaton Hall (courtesy of the Friends of) but have the feeling they’re hanging by a thread when most of the building is in such a state of disrepair Historic England The Georgian Group Historic Buildings & Places

Head to Manchester Cathedral tomorrow (31 July, 14.30–) for my free public lecture exploring #Tudor #forgeries by #Victorian Uppermill architect & antiquary George Shaw. We'll examine his fake #HericusVIIRex bed copied from the 1485 #Royal original, & other work, inc. the lectern.

Superb moments at today’s free public lecture by IAN COULSON at Chetham's Library. Next week is Helen Hughes on the bed’s medieval paint. instagram.com/stories/thehis…

Really pleased with the long-term interpretation of some of the #Tudor and #Victorian work at Chetham's Library (latter by local architect George Shaw). All prepared as part of my Arts and Humanities Research Council impact project via Welsh School of Architecture Cardiff University 'Tudor Template for a Northern Rouge'.

Impact in action last night Chetham's Library; part of my co-curated exhibition & Arts and Humanities Research Council interpretation project…more to architect George Shaw than a #Tudor #furniture #forger, & everyone in the large audience went away with a new appreciation of his genius & personality.

From architect #GeorgeShaw's Uppermill workshop, c.1845–50, to his house, St Chad's, seen next to the Ordsall Hall Radcliffe bed, to Chetham's Library…the journey of an chest-on-stand! Weds., sees the close of an exciting touring exhibition that opened at Manchester Cathedral in July!
