Today, Public Safety bureaus and departments participated in the City’s annual “Take Our Kids to Work Day!” Children were able to climb the various vehicles, pet the Mounted Unit horses, see exhibits and equipment, meet first responders… and received a lot of candy!

Pittsburgh EMS is happy to announce that two EMS Chiefs were selected as recipients of the 2025 Community Liver Alliance’s “You Make a Difference” Award. Division Chief Mark Pinkchalk and Crew Chief Nick Okwiya were nominated by the Allegheny County Health Department of Health.

Congratulations to the 46,000 individuals who participated in the Pittsburgh Marathon events! 30 EMS agencies provided EMS support. Together, we fielded 64 calls for service. 27 patients were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries and all have since been released.

EMS Training Tuesday! Throughout April, the EMS Motor Unit conducted annual training for all team members, in addition to an intensive 3-week course for two new riders. Congratulations Paramedics Sean McGrath of Medic 11 and Alex Blystone of Medic 2! Welcome to the Motor Unit!

OEMHS was proud to support the Pittsburgh Marathon from our Emergency Operations Center. Our team coordinated with local, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety and success of all events. We monitored conditions and communicated with first responders to keep everyone safe.

The Department of Public Safety was proud to participate in the City in the Streets event held last night in Perry South! These events will continue throughout the summer and fall, follow the City of City of Pittsburgh for updates on the next event. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Today in Council Chambers, Pittsburgh EMS held a graduation ceremony for the Bureau’s inaugural class of Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, and promotion and swearing-in ceremony for Jennifer McDermott-Grubb from Division Chief to Assistant Chief. Congratulations to all!

Starting Monday and continuing through June 1 is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "Click It or Ticket" campaign, and Pennsylvania state police certified technicians will be conducting free child seat-fitting events. wtae.com/article/pittsb…

EMS Training Tuesday! Last week, the water rescue team completed their spring skills review. Paramedics reviewed boat operations, rescues, advanced line systems, & other core competencies. This training ensures the team’s skills stay sharp as we get ready for the summer season.

EMS Training Tuesday! Last week, eight Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians completed high angle rope rescue training at the Allegheny County Fire Academy. This training involves raising and lowers, rappelling and ascending, and team-based rope rescue scenarios.

During EMS Week 2025, we recognize the dedication of the more than 200 men and women who make up one of the most unique Emergency Medical Services agencies in the nation. We are Pittsburgh EMS! City of Pittsburgh's Paramedics, Advanced EMTs, and EMTs stand ready to answer the call.

This week, the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS recognized its first cohort of paramedics to have qualified as Master Clinicians. The group was honored at the EMS Training Division and presented with a certificate and Master Clinician ribbon to add to their uniforms. Congratulations!
