As a teacher, at the start of the summer hols I think “6 weeks off!”. With 2 weeks left I think “this is like Easter/Christmas!”. With 1 week left “this is like a half-term!” Now I am down to “this is like a Bank Holiday weekend”.

I have seen my class lists and am looking forward to teaching some incredible students this coming year which will be, rather shockingly, my 28th year of doing this wonderful job.

Well done to everyone who works in a school and helped to make the return to school a positive experience for students (and staff). Here is a high-five from Teddy especially for you.

Me 5 minutes ago: I must try and have some time off the internet today to give my brain and eyes a rest. Me now: I wonder what the Gladiators are up to these days. Must check immediately.

Tomorrow is #NationalPoetryDay and here is one of my favourites from Vernon Scannell. When he died his obituary talked of “his unflinching focus on the age-old themes of love, war and death” which I think are all shown here. MrsThomas_KBA Davina Canham

On #RemembranceDay please spare a moment to remember my grandfather, Alick Bott, who was killed in action in Holland on 13th October 1944 at the age of 32. He is buried alongside 19 year old John Mather who was killed in the same action near Mook.

Visited Jerusalem Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery this anoon. Only 47 graves there but they include the youngest British soldier to die in WW2, Private J. Banks, who was just 16 when he was killed on 21st July 1944.
