Elon Musk, the self-proclaimed free speech prophet, restricts Turkish accounts on X that call for protests in Turkey against Imamoglu’s detention, following requests from the government.

Protests aimed at toppling Erdoğan have resumed in Izmir, too. Police have abandoned restraint. On the campus of Dokuz Eylül University, they are spaying tear gas directly in protesters’ faces.

The AKP is notorious for putting trustees into positions of elected officials removed at the will of the President. Turkish opposition leader Özgür Özel is spending the night in the Istanbul mayoral building to defend the mayorship against an illegal trustee.

This now looks like a totally coordinated Turkish gov’t move targeting the main opposition: • Court dismisses opposition leaning Istanbul Bar Chairman and Board • Rumours that another court will dismiss CHP board/chairman • Happen simultaneously while Imamoglu is detained

In Izmir, Turkey, lawyers were assigned to defend students detained at protests against the detention of opposition leader Ekrem İmamoğlu. Now, the Izmir Bar Association says the lawyers themselves were beaten and detained by police.
