It's here–the deepest, sharpest infrared view of the universe to date: Webb's First Deep Field. Previewed by President Donald J. Trump on July 11, it shows galaxies once invisible to us. The full set of NASA Webb Telescope's first full-color images & data will be revealed July 12: nasa.gov/webbfirstimages
Some stars go out with a bang. In these images of the Southern Ring planetary nebula, NASA Webb Telescope shows a dying star cloaked by dust and layers of light. Explore this star's final performance at nasa.gov/webbfirstimages #UnfoldTheUniverse.
Take Five: Captured in exquisite detail, NASA Webb Telescope peered through the thick dust of Stephan’s Quintet, a galaxy cluster showing huge shockwaves and tidal tails. This is a front-row seat to galactic evolution: nasa.gov/webbfirstimages #UnfoldTheUniverse
Cosmic cliffs & a sea of stars. NASA Webb Telescope reveals baby stars in the Carina Nebula, where ultraviolet radiation and stellar winds shape colossal walls of dust and gas. nasa.gov/webbfirstimages #UnfoldTheUniverse
Hey NASA Solar System, ready for your close-up? As part of Webb’s prep for science, we tested how the telescope tracks solar system objects like Jupiter. Webb worked better than expected, and even caught Jupiter’s moon Europa: blogs.nasa.gov/webb/2022/07/1…
Last week I successfully defended my PhD in astrophysical and planetary sciences CU Boulder 🦬 on the topic of the Martian Water Cycle. I couldn't have asked for better advisors than Paul Hayne and Bruce Jakosky. Feels surreal to be Dr. Noora Alsaeed.
On the heels of her successful PhD defense, Dr. Noora Alsaeed and I have a new paper out on the role of "scavenging" by CO2 snow in the water cycle on Mars: doi.org/10.1029/2022JE… Snowfall may play a key role in when and where ice accumulates at the poles of the red planet.
To add to the joy of defending last week, my new paper with Paul Hayne on the scavenging of water by CO2 snowfall at the Martian poles is out now: doi.org/10.1029/2022JE… TL;DR CO2 snowfall may be an important mechanism for water ice transport in the polar regions of Mars!
Did you know that it snows CO2 ice on Mars?? And that it can scavenge water ice from the atmosphere in the process?? I wrote a paper with Paul Hayne about this phenomenon, check it out!
At CU Boulder 🦬, Emiratis and Americans are working side-by-side on scientific discoveries that are out of this world 🪐. On #IDWGS, learn from Dr. Noora Alsaeed as she shares her experience at CU & the support she received from her professors: bit.ly/50Faces_Alsaeed
