Local development is the key to reducing poverty and inequality and ensuring people's well-being. With our partners, Governo de Cabo Verde, Luxembourg in Cabo Verde, UN-Habitat and National Association of Municipalities, we are strengthening the capacities of municipalities to improve their results.

investing in municipalities is crucial to reducing poverty in Cabo Verde. With Governo de Cabo Verde and our partner Luxembourg in Cabo Verde and the munipalities, at the 2nd Steering Committee, we are aligning the 2025 priorities for the Joint Program for Local Development.

Sustainable development can only be achieved if it is firmly embedded in local communities. UNDP has been working with key partners, Governo de Cabo Verde, Luxembourg in Cabo Verde, and municipalities to implement the only local development programme that covers 100% of the country´s territory.

Thanks to the generous support of our partner, Luxembourg in Cabo Verde, we just launched a call for proposals for all municipalities to submit projects. As a part of the Joint Local Development Programme, this opportunity will respond to the aspirations of local communities.

Thanks to the support of Luxembourg in Cabo Verde, we have strengthened the capacity of local finance officers of all the municipalities to better collect and manage municipal revenue. The workshop, as part of the Local Development Program, will enable municipalities to gain greater autonomy.

#SocialJustice What does the UNDP stand for? We supported Cabo Verde in creating the Single Social Registry, which has made possible to identify and support the most vulnerable population with social policies in areas such health, education, social protection and housing.

Through the IMPACTAR iniative, supported by UNDP in Cabo Verde, unemployed young people will be trained with skills to create their own business. For UNDP Reprepresentative David Matern, IMPACTAR is an example of a partnership to maximise the empowerment of Cape Verdean youth.

It is a UNDP´s commitment to support the development of Cabo Verde´s municipalities. Under the Joint Local Development Program, with the suport of Luxembourg in Cabo Verde , we are providing training to municipal technicians to better design, manage and monitor community impact projects.
