I can understand why so many groups and MPs who have been pushing for a better benefits system will want to do everything they can to influence this review for the better. But also worth paying close attention to the language that Government are using around it. (1/8)

Helpful call for a rethink on tax from a recently departed No.10 economics adviser But his description & justification of fiscal rules & assumptions reveals a constrained & rigid government mindset that will keep us locked into an austerity doom loop...🧵 thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

"It is naive and dangerous for society to rely on the enlightened philanthropist to curb inequality. We need to stop glorifying wealth through rich lists and start drawing a line on extreme wealth" Great piece by NEF CEO Danny Sriskandarajah theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

“Aiming to support more ill & disabled people into work is a laudable aim, but these cuts are neither necessary to achieve that or justified by it” I spoke to Chris Smyth for this Times piece about disability & health benefit cuts & employment support thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Today's Trussell stats should be a wake-up call - near record emergency food provision in 2024/25, inflation up again + record cuts to disability benefits to come The UK govt is on course to fail on its manifesto promises + push up hunger and hardship bbc.co.uk/news/live/c3d4…

This is hugely well-earned by Patrick Butler and Josh Halliday, who persistently & righteously pursued the carers allowance story, produced compellingly journalism about it, and helped to achieve real political and social change theguardian.com/media/2025/may…

Hugely encouraging to see the balance apparently tilting towards scrapping the two-child limit entirely. As well as being vital from a moral perspective, the long-term benefits of poverty reduction on this scale will outweigh any short-term economic & political costs
