An *even* more basic need would have been a hybrid option for those who couldn't make it for good reason (health, visa). And hey, great WiFi makes that easier, i've heard!

Good grief. The responses and q/ts make me question how I even have a career with attending hardly any professional conferences (lots of small invited workshops tho). Oh wait, I was never in the US which operates on the basis of institutionalised nepotism, like conferences!

Cool cool cool. But all i'm seeing is how they are transforming into elite clubs that refuse to open doors to wider communities, only deepening issues of access. I need to see senior folks wonder about these uncomfortable questions too 🙏

Read this. The classic suspicion that, of course, 'we won't return home' so no visa for us. Oh the things i've done to try to convince the officer reading my application - emphasise the existence of a husband back home or a life I actually like (unbelievable right?).

Me and Dr Nihan Albayrak: Hey conference, tell us why you slam the door on folks couldn't make it for visa/health/budget/good reason and why you finally 'allowing' us in still didn't come close to cutting it? Conference: tkx 4 feedback We have an uphill battle folks.

In an interview with Abish Mathew, Ronny bhaiya breaks down some beautiful poetry on what it means to leave home, to be a #migrant. I wept the first time I heard it and I wept even more as I heard it now given the current atmosphere in the UK. youtube.com/clip/UgkxRFsh5…

I was so lucky to be able to have Danny Kahneman as a best friend and collaborator for decades. He usually ended our conversations with "to be continued..." but I now have to simulate his part which is impossible. My favorite image of us "working".

View above my head seated on a British Airways aircraft from London - Mumbai. I don't mind an old aircraft but there is zero excuse for the air vents being full of dust and filth. We pay ridiculous prices for air travel and this is what we get?
