Mostly interested in medieval churches especially cathedrals. Levity is always good, people take themselves far too seriously.

The tiny hilltop church of St Martin, stands high above the River Ebble in Fifield Bavant in Wiltshire. Now part of Ebbesbourne Wake parish it had parish church status until 1894.

A fabulous 13thC tree of Jesse at St Mary's, Black Bourton. Growing out of the slumbering Jesse it looks exactly like a family photo montage! #WednesdayWallPaintings

Bradwell juxta Coggeshall, Essex, Holy Trinity. Romanesque church with very early (13c) use of brick. Monument deliberately placed to stop the Holy Table being seen as an altar. The rood screen displays its construction marks which would originally have been covered.

Interlacing pointed arches on the C12 font at Whitchurch Canonicorum in Dorset. Clearly up with the new fangled architectural style that emerged in this country mostly in the latter half of that century. #FontOnFriday

St Mary's Luppitt in Devon is justifiably best known for its memorable, if decoratively confusing, font. However, tucked in a corner there sits this lovely column piscina. Long dry and a rather gorgeous example of Norman decoration.

Had to fork out a tenner for a lupin in a pot. Should have pinched them from my mother's garden before we sold the house.

John the Baptist towers over Herod and his wife Herodias in part of a series of C14 wall paintings about his life. Might this be the moment when he told the couple that their marriage was not lawful under Jewish Law as Herodias had been married to Herod's brother. Cerne Abbas.

Reviewing Easter Sepulchres that I have seen and whilst this at Sibthorpe is certainly not as ornate as the wondrous example at Hawton, I like it very much. I hope that you do too.
