Seeing the RAF Hercules going into Sudan on the eve of its retirement reminded me of this painting I did for 47 Squadron (I think), depicting them going into Sarajevo to evacuate badly wounded Irma Hadzimuratovic aged just 5. Amazingly, Operation Irma took place 30 years ago.

A mother and her two-year-old daughter from Dnipro died today. And that creature… It seems he is never going to have enough. He is hoping for another peace deal. But remember, the cannibal negotiates and then eats again.

I don’t often post selfies, but when you’re at 5000ft over Abingdon in a Hawker Hurricane, it’s probably worth it, especially as the photo was taken by my son from a Harvard on his first ever photo flight! Quite a day!

Wishing the last known surviving Battle of Britain pilot, John 'Paddy' Hemingway a very happy 104th birthday. My painting shows him baling out of Hurricane P3966 after being hit by Me109s over the Thames on 26 August 1940. Needless to say, he was back in the air soon after!

Over at Wingleader, we've finally launched our YouTube channel to bring our aviation content and archive to a wider and younger audience. Here's our latest film which reveals a rare and previously unknown marking carried by Hurricanes in the BofB. youtu.be/P3il6dJaMt4

It's Battle of Britain Day today, so here's my painting of 19 Sqn's George Unwin in action. Ā Lovely bloke, we always ended up talking about football as he had been quite a useful defender, hard as nails, an attitude which he transferred well to the skies above England in 1940!

Over on our Wingleader YouTube channel, we've just released our latest film, based on unseen 8mm footage from a JG52 pilot during the BofB. After a lot of research, we realised that it shows an event never captured on film before! youtu.be/6_JcnMTP7zs

Progressing nicely with the new Polish Hurricane painting. This clip shows me sketching in the second Hurricane. I’ll be working on this painting this Saturday at Duxford’s Hurricane Day, tickets are probably still available!

An appeal to anyone who bought original paintings from me in the past 10 yrs. I'm currently finishing the third book of my paintings and it's traditional to mention the owners' name next to their painting. Problem is, my records are incomplete, so do let me know if you have one!

Today in 1940, 303 (Polish) Sqn climbed out of Northolt to engage the Luftwaffe. Within 20 minutes they were bounced by Me109s and three of the Hurricanes were shot down, two pilots died and one was badly burned. My painting shows all the aircraft involved, S,T & J were lost.

Delighted to announce that my third book of paintings is now in stock. With over 90 of my paintings from the last 15 years, it's a large format coffee table book that would make a great gift for any aviation enthusiast, (better than socks...!). wingleader.co.uk/books/wita3/
