In my opinion amateur baseball would benefit from a return to neighborhood baseball for younger ages and American Legion Baseball - or a similar model - for high school aged players.

Before going to one of those big box store tryouts, please do some research! We are not a rec league, we don't have multiple teams in our age groups and our cost is a fraction of what you would pay on most travel teams!

Why Legion? Myth 1: “Travel teams guarantee college scholarships.” Reality: Fewer than 2% of all high school players at NCAA Division I. colleges find players through high school and summer including Legion. Coaches care more about skill, grades, and character than the jersey

Why Legion? Myth 2: “College coaches don’t watch Legion ball.” Reality: Scouts & coaches recruit where talent plays not just where the most expensive uniforms are. Legion schedules include state tournaments, regionals, and nationals that get scouting attention. Missouri American Legion Baseball

Myth 3: “The more expensive the team, the better the opportunity.” Reality: Many travel teams charge $2,000–$5,000+ /season & promise exposure Legion fees are fraction & include insurance, tournament pathways, & community support. Money doesn’t create talent.

Myth 4: “Legion is old school and outdated.” Reality: Legion just celebrated its 100th Anniversary. Over half of MLB Hall of Famers played Legion ball. Legion remains one of the largest amateur baseball programs focused on player development, leadership, & affordability.

In ‘21, District 7 American Legion was down to 4 teams. We will have at least 10 teams in ‘26. If you had a chance to check out the NY American Legion Baseball Tourney @ RIT, you saw what 160+ Monroe County players & their parents already know: American Legion is the best baseball in the 585

Until HS ADs put an end to the predatory recruitment of kids for personal enrichment by their coaches the demise of club ball is greatly exaggerated.
