I have been very blessed to have been sent a review copy via NetGalley of Mark Lee Gardner’s book, Brothers of the Gun. I’ve just finished it and loved it just as much as his other books. Review on the blog coming soon.

To celebrate my wedding anniversary, we’re enjoying 2025’s greatest #frockingfabulous hits so far!: This glorious gown was designed by #AntoniodelCastillo for #Lanvin in 1957. It was embroidered by #Lesage, of course. #Fashionhistory via the V&A.

I was much cheered by floral gifts today which are now brightening my view from the sofa and reminding me of garments such as Balenciaga’s early #1960s cocktail dress of white wild silk hand embroidered with a host of blooms V&A

This year marks the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Barry M. Marsden wrote an excellent book about some of the Derbyshire-born pilots who were part of the 'few' that fought, as our Archives Assistant Danielle discovered: recordoffice.wordpress.com/2025/08/19/der…

When I first visited Saint-Germain-en-Laye some years ago the church was closed, so I was unable to pay my respects at the final resting place of King James II and VII. I corrected that today

In Great Expectations, the criminal, Magwitch, was held on a prison hulk on the River Medway. What exactly were prison hulks and what were the conditions like for prisoners on board? Find out this post from the #voyagerofhistory archives. #historyblog wp.me/pagtWm-dc

I've now had 100,000 views on my history blog. I can't quite believe it as that feels like a massive number! I could never have believed it was possible when I set it up 7 years ago. Thank you to everyone who has liked, read and subscribed in that time.❤️ voyagerofhistory.wordpress.com

The Richard III Society joined us today to lay a wreath by the Tomb of King Richard III. On this day 540 years ago, Richard yielded his crown, his kingdom and his life in battle at Bosworth. We commend again to God’s keeping all who died, and to commit ourselves to live peacefully.

#OTD in 1485, Richard III died at the Battle of Bosworth, as did many others on both sides. Richard is the reason I got into history and I always try to mark this anniversary.

Visited nearby Cromford today for the first time in ages. Specifically went to visit the grave of Frederick George Alleyne Arkwright’s grave. I’ve been researching his tragic death in a plane accident during WW1. A blog post about him will be coming soon for the DRO.
