I am absolutely delighted for my co-author Daron Acemoglu to receive this well-deserved honor! His contributions to economics are difficult to overstate. In addition to his pioneering work on institutions, his research on technological change would be worthy of another Nobel Prize

The high geographic mobility of foreign-born adults can facilitate adjustment to local economic shocks. However, the US regions whose industries faced the China import shock in the 90s/00s had few immigrants, and mobility of the foreign-born hence did little to buffer the shock.
