I had just finished lecturing Perimeter Institute and these wonderful ugd visiting students got in touch because of their love of Sixty Symbols - they were from Ethiopia, South Korea, Bangladesh, USA, Canada, Mexico ! Made my day !

It’s always wonderful to celebrate the success of our students. Today it’s Chad Briddon who passed his PhD viva with flying colours. Thanks to our external examiner Baojiu Li, and congratulations to Chad and his PhD supervisors Prof. Clare Burrage and Adam Moss

Congratulations to our PhD student @seviserful who today successfully defended his thesis. Well done Sergio and all the best for your postdoc IPPP Durham . Here with myself and fellow supervisor Pete Millington as well as wearing his Higgs potential hat made by our students !

Enjoyed my first tutorial for 2 yrs UoN Physics & Astronomy - I asked my tutees to find out about women or people of ethnic minorities who have made an impact in physics & astronomy. Some impressive people in their list

I recently went to a local junior school to talk about space. The children asked about the formation of the solar system, the moon and orbits. We discussed ellipses, length & time scales & gravity - it was magic ! If you ever get the chance to help your local school, jump at it !

Our latest Sixty Symbols video in which with my colleagues Mark Fromhold and Ioan Notingher I try and explain the physics behind this years Nobel prize ! It was for some really impressive experimental breakthroughs leading to attosecond pulses of light !

Today’s first year tutorial - we discussed this years Nobel prize in physics - timely given the Sixty Symbols video covering it came out today ! m.youtube.com/watch?v=NfmSjG…

So much fun using Faulkes Telescope today @HalamSchool introducing length scales from galaxy clusters to supernova remnants. The children counted down every observation- think I’ll introduce it in lectures as we approach key equations !

Dr. Maggie Lieu (Dr Maggie Lieu) has put up this fantastic display in the Physics building, with images of trailblazing #womeninSTEM. Perhaps the most important though is the central panel - reserved for YOU and your future endeavours!

Sometimes crazy opportunities arise and you have just got to give it a go — thanks Ellie - tonight in Paris !! Quite an atmosphere!

This has been a fun project. Relatively little is known about the period between the end of inflation & reheating the universe. In these string models there is a long period of relatively slow evolution in which string loops can form, grow & percolate to form a string network !

Ed Copeland (@profedcopeland) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Forgot to share this fun paper when Swagat Saurav Mishra posted it -cmb constraints suggest the inflaton potential may be of a form which admit oscillons - solitons that live a lot longer than one might naively expect & could play a key role in reheating the universe after inflation.

This was fun - getting the chance to talk about some recent work on reheating the early universe to create particles after a period of inflation - a Sixty Symbols video with a few equations in there too !!

Ed Copeland (@profedcopeland) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It was fun and challenging answering questions on black holes from viewers of Sixty Symbols - with my colleague Tony Padilla and Brady Haran m.youtube.com/watch?v=KT4xG0…

Two new fun Sixty Symbols videos out. One with my Uni of Nottingham #WeAreUoN colleague Tony Padilla discussing the recent DESI results on dynamical dark energy and the issues or opportunities it raises for us theorists m.youtube.com/watch?v=UDOsuw…

The 2nd Sixty Symbols video - 36 min of me discussing implications for the make up of our universe following two recent sets of results, the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) & the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Imager (DESI) - a sure way of falling asleep m.youtube.com/watch?v=rcgnho…
