Still buzzing from Writing Math at the The Fields Institute! Immensely grateful to everyone who joined the panel and made the event such a thoughtful and inspiring space. A quick thread of gratitude ⤵️

Maximizing benefits and minimizing risks sounds great until you realize many things benefit some people while harming others---does that count as a benefit or a risk? This max'ing stuff is a marketing slogan that masks the true complexities and tradeoffs.

I’d love to see the chain-of-thought for this reco alg: “I don’t think we should include a math book here… but it does have Robin Hood in the title, so what the heck, let’s go for it!”

Sorry UGA, I taught this student once four years ago on zoom during the pandemic. Didn't realize I was supposed to perform a full Meyers-Briggs analysis on them and get to know them better than I know my own brother.
